Nope, that’s no typo, it’s a group of women cancer survivors who formed a dragon boat racing team. They practice in Morro Bay and some of the women even race competitively. We featured the group in this story over the weekend. A local doctor recently donated a new dragon boat and so the team gave them all a taste of just how tough they are. I do several stories a week, but this one in particular stands out for me. I find it incredibly inspiring that these women not only beat cancer, but they’re using their experiences to help and inspire others. I also love that it demonstrates how therapeutic physical outdoor activity can be. Many of the women said it gives them an opportunity to forget about the cancer, forget about the treatment, and simply focus on the paddling, the outdoors, and themselves.
